Statement of Welcoming the new political party, National Citizen Party (NCP)

The South Asia Initiative warmly welcomes the emergence of the National Citizen Party (NCP) as a new voice in Bangladeshi politics. Born from the resilience and aspirations of students, this movement embodies the spirit of the July Uprising — a symbol of youth-led democratic awakening across South Asia.

At a time when democratic values and human rights face unprecedented challenges, the rise of a student-driven political platform signals hope for a more inclusive, accountable, and just future. The NCP’s commitment to civic participation, social justice, and transparency resonates with our core belief that young people are not merely the future of democracy — they are its present guardians.

We encourage NCP to stay rooted in the principles of peaceful activism, dialogue, and ethical leadership. As a think tank dedicated to advancing democracy and human rights, we stand in solidarity with all movements that prioritize people’s voices, especially the youth, who continue to be the vanguards of change in Bangladesh and beyond.

The South Asia Initiative remains committed to fostering an environment where emerging democratic forces like NCP can thrive without fear or suppression. We hope this moment marks the beginning of a new era—one driven by hope, integrity, and the unwavering pursuit of a better tomorrow for all Bangladeshis.
