Statement of Welcoming the New Political Party, Jonotar Dol
The South Asia Initiative warmly welcomes and congratulates the formation of Jonotar Dol led by Brig Gen (retd) Md Shamim Kamal, a new political party this month, March. This alliance, comprising former members of the armed forces, administrators, and student leaders from the July Uprising, symbolizes a significant stride toward inclusive and representative governance in Bangladesh. Its short-term goal is to get as many seats as it can, but in 10 years it wants to lead the government. The establishment of Jonotar Dol reflects a collective aspiration for a political landscape rooted in transparency, accountability, and public service.
We encourage Jonotar Dol to uphold their three principles with party’s slogan INSAF BANGLADESH. As a think tank dedicated to advancing democratic values, we stand in solidarity with all movements that prioritize the voices of the people, especially the youth, who continue to be catalysts for positive change in Bangladesh and beyond.
The South Asia Initiative remains committed to supporting an environment where emerging democratic forces like Jonotar Dol can thrive without fear or suppression. We hope this development marks the beginning of a new era characterized by hope, integrity, and the unwavering pursuit of a better future for all Bangladeshis.
